Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for creating and managing bets. In an exemplary embodiment, a first betting session may be started. Betting product information may be communicated to at least one user. A plurality of bet requests for wagering on at least one betting product may be received from the at least one user. Each of the plurality of bet requests may comprise at least one betting term from the betting product information. One of the bet requests may be validated. Another of the bet requests may be validated based on a term associated with the other bet request being within a range from a corresponding term associated with the validated bet request. A betting instrument may be created for each validated bet request. Bets associated with the betting instruments may be settled.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

starting a first betting session;

communicating, by the at least one processor, betting product information to at least one user;

receiving, by the at least one processor, a plurality of bet requests for wagering on at least one betting product from the at least one user, each of the plurality of bet requests comprising at least one betting term from the betting product information;

validating one of the plurality of the bet requests;

determining, by the at least one processor, that a numerical term associated with another of the plurality of the bet requests is within a non-zero range from a corresponding numerical term associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests;

validating automatically, by the at least one processor, the another of the plurality of the bet requests based on the act of determining that the numerical term associated with the another of the plurality of the bet requests is within the non-zero range from the corresponding numerical term associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests;

based at least in part on the act of validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests and the act of validating the another of the plurality of the bet requests, creating, by the at least one processor, a betting instrument for each validated bet request; and

settling bets associated with the betting instruments.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests is performed manually.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests comprises applying at least one validation test selected from the group consisting of:

determining if the betting product exists;

determining if the betting product is active;

determining if the betting product is tradeable; and

determining if the bet request exceeds a limitation.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests comprises determining whether a term associated with the bet requests differs from the betting product information communicated to the at least one user.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests comprises determining whether a term associated with the bet requests differs from the betting product information communicated to the at least one user within a period of time from receipt of the one of the plurality of bet request.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests comprises determining whether a term associated with the bet requests differs from the betting product information communicated to the at least one user by a predetermined amount.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one betting term comprises a betting line value and wherein the another of the plurality of the bet requests is validated based on a betting line value associated with the another of the plurality of the bet requests being within a range from a betting line value associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one betting term comprises odds for a bet request and wherein the another of the plurality of the bet requests is validated based on odds associated with the another of the plurality of the bet requests being within a range from odds associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one betting term comprises time for a bet request and wherein the another of the plurality of the bet requests is validated based on a time associated with the another of the plurality of the bet requests being within a range from a time associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests.

10. The method of claim 1, comprising starting a second betting session essentially immediately after expiration of the first betting session.

11. The method of claim 10, comprising settling bets received in the first betting session concurrently with the running of the second betting session.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the betting product comprises at least one of an up bet and a down bet relative to a betting line value.

13. The method of claim 12, comprising determining odds for at least one of an up bet betting product and a down bet betting product, the betting product information comprising the odds for the at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the at least one betting term comprises odds determined at the time of the bet request.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the betting line value is set at a start of and remains unchanged for at least the first betting session, the method comprising determining odds for at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product,

wherein the odds for the at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product vary for at least a portion of the betting session based at least on changes in a reference variable value associated with the betting line value, and wherein the betting product information comprises the odds for the at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product.

16. The method of claim 12, comprising determining odds for the at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product, wherein the odds remain unchanged for at least the first betting session and the betting line value varies for at least a portion of the betting session;

and determining a betting line value at a plurality of times during the betting session, wherein the betting product information comprises the odds for the at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product and the variable betting line value.

17. A system comprising at least one processor and a memory element having software stored thereon that when executed performs a method comprising:

starting a first betting session;

communicating betting product information to at least one user;

receiving a plurality of bet requests for wagering on at least one betting product from the at least one user, each of the plurality of bet requests comprising at least one betting term from the betting product information;

validating one of the plurality of the bet requests;

determining, by the at least one processor, that a numerical term associated with another of the plurality of the bet requests is within a non-zero range from a corresponding numerical term associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests;

validating automatically the another of the plurality of the bet requests based on the act of determining that the numerical term associated with the another of the plurality of the bet requests is within the non-zero range from the corresponding numerical term associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests;

based at least in part on the act of validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests and the act of validating the another of the plurality of the bet requests, creating a betting instrument for each validated bet request; and

settling bets associated with the betting instruments.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests is performed manually.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests comprises applying at least one validation test selected from the group consisting of:

determining if the betting product exists;

determining if the betting product is active;

determining if the betting product is tradeable; and

determining if the bet request exceeds a limitation.

20. The system of claim 17, wherein validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests comprises determining whether a term associated with the bet requests differs from the betting product information communicated to the at least one user.

21. The system of claim 17, wherein validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests comprises determining whether a term associated with the bet requests differs from the betting product information communicated to the at least one user within a period of time from receipt of the one of the plurality of bet request.

22. The system of claim 17, wherein validating the one of the plurality of the bet requests comprises determining whether a term associated with the bet requests differs from the betting product information communicated to the at least one user by a predetermined amount.

23. The system of claim 17, wherein the at least one betting term comprises a betting line value and wherein the another of the plurality of the bet requests is validated based on a betting line value associated with the another of the plurality of the bet requests being within a range from a betting line value associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests.

24. The system of claim 17, wherein the at least one betting term comprises odds for a bet request and wherein the another of the plurality of the bet requests is validated based on odds associated with the another of the plurality of the bet requests being within a range from odds associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests.

25. The system of claim 17, wherein the at least one betting term comprises time for a bet request and wherein the another of the plurality of the bet requests is validated based on a time associated with the another of the plurality of the bet requests being within a range from a time associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests.

26. The system of claim 17, the method comprising starting a second betting session essentially immediately after expiration of the first betting session.

27. The system of claim 26, the method comprising settling bets received in the first betting session concurrently with the running of the second betting session.

28. The system of claim 17, wherein the betting product comprises at least one of an up bet and a down bet relative to a betting line value.

29. The system of claim 28, the method comprising determining odds for at least one of an up bet betting product and a down bet betting product, the betting product information comprising the odds for the at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product.

30. The system of claim 29, wherein the at least one betting term comprises odds determined at the time of the bet request.

31. The system of claim 30, wherein the betting line value is set at a start of and remains unchanged for at least the first betting session, the method comprising determining odds for at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product,

wherein the odds for the at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product vary for at least a portion of the betting session based at least on changes in a reference variable value associated with the betting line value, and wherein the betting product information comprises the odds for the at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product.

32. The system of claim 28, the method comprising determining odds for the at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product, wherein the odds remain unchanged for at least the first betting session and the betting line value varies for at least a portion of the betting session;

and determining a betting line value at a plurality of times during the betting session, wherein the betting product information comprises the odds for the at least one of the up bet betting product and the down bet betting product and the variable betting line value.

33. A system comprising at least one processor and a memory element having software stored thereon that when executed performs a method comprising:

starting a first betting session;

communicating betting product information to at least one user;

receiving a plurality of bet requests for wagering on at least one betting product from the at least one user, each of the plurality of bet requests comprising at least one betting term from the betting product information;

validating one of the plurality of the bet requests;

determining, by the at least one processor, that a numerical term associated with another of the plurality of the bet requests is within a predetermined non-zero range from a corresponding numerical term associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests, in which the numerical term associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests consists of a specific numerical value that is not a range, and in which the numerical term associated with the another of the plurality of the bet requests consists of a specific numerical value that is not a range;

creating a betting instrument for the another of the plurality of the bet requests based on the act of determining that the numerical term associated with the another of the plurality of the bet requests is within the predetermined non-zero range from the corresponding numerical term associated with the validated one of the plurality of the bet requests; and

settling bets associated with the betting instruments.
