1. An apparatus configured for transmitting orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals for communication in a wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:

  • signal generation and transmission components configured for generating and transmitting an OFDM signal using a first frequency band that includes a plurality of frequency channels;

    a determining component configured for determining whether a terminal is a full band terminal configured for receiving the first frequency band or a limited band terminal configured for receiving a limited frequency band comprising a subset of the plurality of frequency channels of the first frequency band, said subset comprising one of the frequency channels or a plurality of the frequency channels that are adjacent to each other; and

    wherein, in response to the determination by the determining component that the terminal is the limited band terminal, the signal generation and transmission components are configured to allocate data to the subset of the plurality of frequency channels and allocate no power to at least one adjacent frequency channel of the plurality of frequency channels that is adjacent to the subset of the plurality of frequency channels, and wherein one frequency channel included in the subset of the plurality of frequency channels is positioned at an edge of the first frequency band.
