1. A wired daisy chain mechanism comprising at least first and second multi data type communication link transceivers;

  • each multi data type communication link transceiver is configured to operate according to at least two modes of operation;

    in an active mode of operation, the transceiver is operative to communicate a first stream associated with a first set of data types;

    in a first low-power partial-functionality (LPPF) mode of operation, the transceiver is operative to communicate a second stream associated with a second set of data types;

    the multi data type communication link comprises wires, and the first and second transceivers are configured to transmit over the same wires during the active mode of operation and the first LPPF mode of operation;

    wherein the power consumption in the active mode of operation is higher than the power consumption in the first LPPF mode of operation, the bandwidth of the first stream is significantly higher than the bandwidth of the second stream, the first and second sets of data types have at least one data type in common, and each of the multi data type communication link transceivers is capable of changing its mode of operation according to a request from its link partner.
