Rotatable boom cargo scanning system
First Claim
1. A foldable boom structure for use in a cargo inspection system wherein said foldable boom structure comprises a stowed configuration and an operational configuration:
- a. wherein the stowed configuration comprisesa first section, having a first end and a second end, wherein said first section is in a first plane and is pivotally coupled, at the first end, to a back surface of a vehicle and wherein said first plane is substantially parallel to a plane defined by the back surface of the vehicle;
a second section having a first end and a second end, wherein said second section is substantially parallel to the first section, and wherein the first end of the second section is pivotally connected to the second end of the first section; and
a third section having a first end and a second end, wherein said third section is substantially parallel to the first section and the second section, and wherein the first end of the third section is pivotally connected to the second end of the second section; and
b. wherein the operational configuration comprisessaid first section, in a second plane, wherein said second plane is substantially perpendicular to the plane defined by the back surface of the vehicle;
said second section, wherein said second section is substantially perpendicular to the first section and wherein the first end of the second section is pivotally connected to the second end of the first section; and
said third section, wherein said third section is substantially parallel to the first section and perpendicular to the second section and wherein the first end of the third section is pivotally connected to the second end of the second section.

Abstract
The present application is a self-contained mobile inspection system and method and, more specifically, improved methods and systems for detecting materials concealed within a wide variety of receptacles and/or cargo containers. In particular, the present application is an improved method and system for inspecting receptacles and/or cargo containers using a single boom placed on a turntable with pivot points to allow for folding and unfolding of the boom, such that the inspection system is relatively compact in a stowed configuration and has a low center of gravity lending to greater stability.
