1. A method for processing an alarm, comprising:

  • receiving, by a processor, an alarm associated with a switched voice service;

    retrieving a local routing number or a primary inter-exchange carrier information from a switch serving a call associated with a caller'"'"'s telephone number;

    determining if the alarm is due to a service degradation; and

    notifying a work center responsible for the service degradation if the alarm is due to the service degradation;

    determining if the alarm is due to a provisioning error;

    notifying a work center responsible for the provisioning error if the alarm is due to the provisioning error;

    determining if a called number is an internet protocol network telephone number of an internet protocol network;

    retrieving a status of an internet protocol port if the called number is the internet protocol network telephone number;

    determining if a link or a protocol is active for the internet protocol port;

    determining a status of a customer router if the link or the protocol is active; and

    verifying a customer'"'"'s network configuration if the link, protocol or customer router are inactive.
