1. A method for communication, comprising:

  • transmitting data from a transmitter to a receiver over a wireless communication link at a variable data rate using Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM);

    setting the data rate at which the data is transmitted by selecting, based on feedback information that is fed back from the receiver to the transmitter, an ACM profile that defines a Forward Error Correction (FEC) code and a modulation scheme for encoding and modulating the data; and

    upon detecting that the feedback information is unusable, changing an operation of the transmitter independently of the feedback, wherein the feedback information is unusable when the transmitter is unable to use the feedback information as a valid indication for setting the data rate.
