1. A method for providing magazine edition recommendations comprising:

  • analyzing a plurality of categories identified based on one or more retrieved magazine edition articles, each of the one or more retrieved magazine edition articles associated with one or more categories in one or more magazine editions, wherein each magazine edition is a digital magazine configured to display one or more retrieved magazine edition articles from content sources of different types in a format specified by a publisher of each magazine edition;

    generating a magazine edition profile for each magazine edition based on categories of the plurality of categories identified for one or more retrieved articles of the corresponding magazine edition;

    generating a profile of a user that includes categories associated with articles in the one or more retrieved magazine editions viewed by the user;

    comparing the categories associated with magazine edition profiles to categories of a profile of a user to determine intersecting categories, wherein the comparing farther comprises;

    determining a matching score based on the similarity between the categories associated with the magazine edition profiles and the generated user profile, wherein the matching score is based on a function for determining the similarity between the categories; and

    identifying the intersecting categories where the matching score exceeds a ranking threshold; and

    providing a magazine edition recommendation for display to the user based on the comparing of the categories associated with magazine edition profiles to the categories of the profile of the user, wherein the magazine edition recommendation includes a personalized trending edition having a trending topic related to the intersecting categories, wherein the personalized trending edition is a magazine edition that includes content on a hot topic related to the intersecting categories and wherein the hot topic is a topic that is trending towards greater popularity during a preceding time interval.
