1. A method of controlling a mobile device comprising a radio frequency (RF) front end coupled to multiple antenna arrays, the method comprising:

  • monitoring a first metric associated with RF signals that are communicated between the mobile device and a second device using a first array of antennas that is aligned with and next to a first area on a surface of the mobile device, wherein the first area is not shielded against RF interference (RFI);

    monitoring a second metric associated with RF signals that are communicated between the mobile device and the second device using a second array of antennas that is aligned with and next to a second area on a surface of the mobile device, wherein the second area is not shielded against RFI; and

    comparing the first and second metrics to select one of the first and second arrays for subsequent communication of RF signals between the mobile device and the second device.
