1. A moving coil tissue penetration device, comprising:

  • a) a magnetic source that produces a magnetic field in a magnetically active region;

    b) a lancet configured to penetrate tissue and mechanically coupled to a translation substrate;

    c) a magnetic core mounted to the lancet;

    d) a sharpened member guide that serves as a stop for an iron core; and

    e) an electromagnetic driver includes a driver coil pack that is divided into a plurality of coils along a path of the lancet with direct current configured to be alternated to the coils to advance and retract the lancet;

    wherein the magnetic source comprises a driver coil pack having a plurality of axially adjacent magnetic coils with axial lumens in a coaxial configuration; and

    wherein at least one of the magnetic coils comprises a permanent magnet.
