- a communication mechanism configured to receive, via a network, location information and speed information about a plurality of devices, wherein each device of the plurality of devices is configured to determine the location information and speed information corresponding to the device; and
one or more computing devices configured to;
determine a density of one or more of the plurality of devices in a particular location,determine an average speed of the one or more of the plurality of devices in the particular location, andgenerate an alert based on the density of the one or more of the plurality of devices in the particular location and the average speed of the one or more of the plurality of devices in the particular location.

Abstract
A device, system and method for controlling speed of a vehicle are provided. The device includes a locational information module for determining location information and speed; a storage module for storing at least one geographic map including at least one route and a speed limit for the at least one route; a processing module configured to receive the location information, retrieve at least one geographic map based on the location information, determine a speed limit based on the location information and compare the speed of the device to the determined speed limit; and a display module for alerting a user if the speed of the device exceeds the determined speed limit. The system and method can be for communicating a subject vehicle'"'"'s speed to a central server where it can be utilized to analyze traffic congestion patterns or notify selected companies or individuals.

a communication mechanism configured to receive, from a plurality of devices via a network, location information and speed information about a plurality of vehicles, wherein each device of the plurality of devices is associated with one of the plurality of vehicles and wherein each device is configured to determine the location information and the speed information corresponding to the one of the plurality of vehicles; a storage device configured to store the location information and the speed information about the plurality of vehicles; and one or more computing devices configured to; determine an average vehicle speed for a particular route, determine that the average vehicle speed varies from a speed limit for the particular route by at least a predetermined amount, determine an average speed of the one or more of the plurality of devices in a particular location, and generate an alert based on a density of one or more of the plurality of devices in the particular location and the average speed of the one or more of the plurality of devices in the particular location; wherein the system is configured to send the alert to an entity that is configured to broadcast the alert. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15)
