1. An expandable stent for implantation in a patient, comprising:

  • a plurality of positioning arches, each having an apex oriented toward a proximal end of the stent and configured to be positioned radially outward with respect to a plurality of leaflets of a native valve;

    a plurality of retaining arches, each having an apex oriented toward the proximal end of the stent and configured to be positioned radially inward with respect to the plurality of leaflets of the native valve;

    a plurality of sets of closed cells, each set disposed circumferentially between an adjacent pair of the plurality of retaining arches; and

    an annular collar attached to the respective apices of the plurality of retaining arches at a distal end of the annular collar.
