Abstract

The sensor network may include a location capture processing unit; and a plurality of sensors in communication with the location capture processing unit. Each sensor of the plurality of sensors includes a controller and a RF receiver configured to receive RF signals. The RF receiver is in communication with the controller. A localization engine is configured to receive beacon signals transmitted by other sensors in the sensor network. The localization engine is in communication with the controller. The controller of each of the plurality of sensors is further configured to determine a position of its respective sensor using either RF receiver or localization engine or both. The plurality of sensors communicates their position to the location capture processing unit.

Claims

1. A distributed antenna system, comprising:

a master unit;

a location capture processing unit;

a plurality of remote units with coverage antennas in communication with the master unit; and

a plurality of sensors in a sensor network, the sensors positioned each proximate to respective coverage antennas of the plurality of remote unit coverage antennas and in communication with the location capture processing unit, each sensor of the plurality of sensors including;

a controller;

a RF receiver configured to receive RF signals from mobile devices, the RF receiver in communication with the controller;

the RF receiver integrated for communication with a remote unit or coverage antenna of the distributed antenna system for providing RF communications in the distributed antenna system;

a localization engine configured to receive beacon signals, the localization engine coupled in communication with the controller;

the controller of each of the plurality of sensors being configured to determine position information associated with its respective sensor using at least one of the RF signals from the RF receiver or the beacon signals from the localization engine, and

the sensors of the plurality of sensors operable for communicating their position information to the location capture processing unit.

2. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the sensor utilizes a separate coverage antenna.

3. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the position information of the sensor includes an absolute position for the sensor.

4. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the position information of the sensor includes position information that is relative to another sensor in the sensor network or a base station in a mobile network.

5. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of sensors communicate their position information to the location capture processing unit with a wired connection using cables of the distributed antenna system.

6. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the location capture processing unit is further configured for being in communication with a mobile location center.

7. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, further comprising:

a global positioning receiver configured to receive signals from a global positioning system, the global positioning receiver in communication with the controller, the controller being configured to determine position information for the sensor using at least one of the RF signals from the RF receiver, signals received by the global positioning receiver, or beacon signals of the localization engine.

The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the location capture processing unit is further configured for processing information from at least one base station and for determining the identity of the at least one base station, the location capture processing unit further configured for using RF signals received from a mobile device by a sensor and the information from the base station to provide the location of a mobile device.

9. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the sensor further comprises a detector selected from the group consisting of:

a temperature detector, a movement detector, an acoustic noise detector, a fire detector, a smoke detector, a gas detector, and combinations thereof.

10. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the sensor further comprises a device selected from the group consisting of:

a microphone, a wide angle video camera, a speaker, and combinations thereof.

11. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the controller is configured to use position information and trilateration to determine the position of the sensor.

12. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the position information uses at least one of received signal strength indication (RSSI) of signals received by the sensor or propagation time delay of signals received by the sensor.

13. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the location capture processing unit uses position information from a sensor to compute the location of a sensor, the location capture processing unit configured for communicating the location back to the sensor.

14. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the location capture processing unit is operable to configure the sensors of the sensor network to at least one of wait for a capture command or set a threshold-based trigger for a set of bands.

The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the location capture processing unit is further configured for processing information from at least one base station and determining the identity of the at least one base station, the location capture processing unit further configured for using RF signals detected from a mobile device by a sensor and the information from the base station to provide the location of a mobile.

16. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, the localization engine configured to generate a beacon signal.

17. The distributed antenna system of claim 1 wherein the location capture processing unit is further configured for being in communication with a building security system.

18. The distributed antenna system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of sensors communicate their position information to the location capture processing unit over a wireless connection.
