1. A method of organizing a group of geographic names in a geographic database for use by a navigation system, comprising:

  • identifying names of locations in the geographic database that are spelled or pronounced in a similar manner;

    grouping the names with a common similarity;

    prioritizing the names within a group using at least one attribute in the geographic database used by the navigation system, wherein the at least one attribute includes a number of road segments associated with each of the names,wherein prioritizing includes using a percentage corresponding to the road segments associated with each of the names to determine at least one name within the group to be considered for display in the navigation system based on whether the respective percentage of road segments is above a threshold, the respective percentage calculated based on the number of road segments associated with the respective name in the group divided by a total number of road segments associated with the group.
