1. A method comprising:

  • transmitting, from a provisioning server comprising a processor, an instruction to a network management server to provide a command to a helper client stored on a target machine in a network of target machines, wherein the command is configured to cause the helper client to retrieve an inventory tool;

    receiving, at the provisioning server, a request from the helper client for the inventory tool in response to the transmitting;

    providing, from the provisioning server, the inventory tool to the target machine, wherein the inventory tool is configured to collect data representing a specification of the target machine and to determine an identification of a power management system associated with the target machine, and wherein the target machine does not have an installed operating system prior to receiving the inventory tool; and

    receiving, at the provisioning server, the collected data.
