Magnetic portable firearm or sporting instrument holding device
First Claim
1. A magnetized holding device for supporting a firearm against a metal surface, comprising:
- (a) a retaining member formed throughout of a continuous block of flexible, resilient foam-like material;
(b) a base member connected to said retaining member, said base member including a magnetizable material and having recessed portions for carrying said magnetizable material and said retaining member;
(c) said base member having a relatively non-abrasive surface disposed opposite said retaining member; and
(d) said retaining member being stationary relative to said base member and including a pair of opposed extended arms which curve around and substantially encompass the firearm barrel to define an elongated substantially closed barrel receiving cavity extending through said retaining member which prevents canting of the firearm within the holding device.

Abstract
A magnetically mountable firearm or sporting instrument holding device of relatively small compass which is readily removable and portable, and can be utilized for providing a convenient place for hunters and sporting enthusiasts to rest their guns and sporting instruments upright on the outside of their car or other metal surface, and to protect that surface from scratches. The magnetic portable firearm or sporting instrument holding device generally includes a universal retaining member for supporting firearms and other sporting instruments having two opposite ends, the first end of which constitutes a recessed receiving end with inwardly tapered arms for guiding the instrument in place, and the second end comprising a common or multi-component magnetic mounting base. The mounting base may include a joining platform collar to orientate, mount, secure, and support the retaining member, and prevent twisting of the magnetic element of the mounting base. One or a plurality of such mounting bases, with or without platform collars, can be mounted to one or more retaining members.

12. A magnetized holding device for supporting a barrel of a firearm against a metal surface, comprising:
-
(a) a retaining member formed throughout of a continuous block of flexible, resilient foam-like material; (b) a magnetizable material; (c) a base member comprised of a rigid platform collar with opposite ends, one end being recessed and adapted to carry said magnetizable material, and said other end being recessed and adapted to receive said retaining member; (d) a first securing mechanism for retaining said magnetizable material within said collar; (e) a second securing mechanism for attaching said retaining member to said collar; and (f) said retaining member being stationary relative to said base member and including a pair of opposed extended arms which curve around and substantially encompass the firearm barrel to define an elongated substantially closed barrel receiving cavity extending through said retaining member which prevents canting of the firearm within the holding device. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15)
