1. A balloon catheter having a distal tip member, comprising:

  • a) an elongated shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, an inflation lumen, a guidewire receiving lumen, an inner tubular member with a distal section of the guidewire lumen therein, and a distal tip member secured to a distal end of the inner tubular member to define a distal end section of the guidewire lumen;

    b) an inflatable balloon on a distal shaft section having a working length between proximal and distal cone sections, and a proximal skirt section and a distal skirt section sealingly secured to the shaft such that an inflatable interior of the balloon is in fluid communication with the inflation lumen; and

    c) a distal coupling band member on an outer surface of the inner tubular member surrounding a junction of the inner tubular member, having a distal end which abuts an inner surface of the balloon at a distal end of the distal cone section.
