1. A system for monitoring a physiological condition of an individual, comprising:
- a central processing unit configured to (i) access one or more databases, (ii) assign a first one of a plurality of programs to the individual, (iii) customize the first program to the individual with particular data related to the individual and (iv) transmit the first program as customized via a communications network, wherein the first program includes a command for collecting measurement data relating to the physiological condition of the individual;
a remote processing apparatus in communications with the central processing unit via the communications network and configured to (i) receive the first program from the central processing unit via the communications network, (ii) connect with a measuring device, (iii) execute the first program to receive the measurement data relating to the physiological condition of the individual from the measuring device per the command and (iv) transmit said measurement data to the central processing unit via the communications network; and
a workstation in communications with the central processing unit via the communications network and configured to (i) transmit the particular data relating to the individual to the central processing unit via the communications network and (ii) receive a report generated based on the measurement data,wherein (i) said report is available at the workstation for review by a health care provider, (ii) the central processing unit is further configured to (a) store the measurement data in the database, (b) generate a second one of the programs based on said measurement data and (c) transmit the second program to the remote processing apparatus via the communications network and (iii) the remote processing apparatus is further configured to execute the second program.

A method for monitoring a physiological condition of a user with an apparatus in a computer network is disclosed. The method generally includes the steps of (A) storing authorization information in a nonvolatile condition within the apparatus, the authorization information being suitable for identifying at least one of (i) one or more authorized patients among a plurality of medical patients of a health monitoring service and (ii) one or more authorized types among a plurality of patient types of the health monitoring service, (B) sensing biometric data from the user of the apparatus and (C) identifying the user as a particular patient from at least one of (i) the authorized patients and (ii) the authorized types in response to matching the biometric data to the authorization information.

(A) assigning a first one of a plurality of programs to the individual using a central processing unit, wherein the first program includes a command for collecting measurement data relating to the physiological condition of the individual; (B) transmitting particular data relating to the individual from a workstation to the central processing unit via a communications network; (C) customizing the first program to the individual with the particular data related to the individual; (D) transmitting the first program as customized from the central processing unit to a remote processing apparatus via the communications network; (E) executing the first program in the remote processing apparatus to receive the measurement data from a measuring device per the command; (F) transmitting the measurement data from the remote processing apparatus to the central processing unit via the communications network; (G) storing the measurement data in a database accessible to the central processing unit; (H) receiving a report at a workstation, wherein the report is (i) generated based on the measurement data and (ii) available at the workstation for review by a health care provider; (I) generating a second one of the programs based on said measurement data; (J) transmitting the second program to the remote processing apparatus via the communications network; and (K) executing the second program in the remote processing apparatus. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
