1. A device for filtering emboli from blood flowing through a lumen defined by the walls of a vessel in a patient'"'"'s body, comprising:

  • a filter element being expandable from a collapsed configuration to an expanded configuration, wherein the filter element comprises a woven mesh having pores, the woven mesh comprising cylindrical wires having at least three different diameters, and the cylindrical wires having at least three different diameters being interwoven together in at least a portion of the mesh;

    further comprising an elongate support member and the filter element being carried on a portion of the elongate support member;

    wherein the diameter of the middle diameter wire is halfway between the diameter of the largest diameter wire and the diameter of the smallest diameter wire.
