Abstract

A computer-implemented method of providing search results responsive to a web enquiry made using an Internet user'"'"'s wireless communication device. The geographical location of the Internet user'"'"'s wireless communication device is determined wirelessly. That geographical location is associated with a computer signature of that same Internet user'"'"'s wireless communication device. Receiving a web enquiry from the Internet user'"'"'s wireless communication device and replying with geographically relevant information based on the Internet user'"'"'s location, as determined by reference to the Internet user'"'"'s computer signature. The location may be cached.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method of providing search results by a website responsive to a web enquiry made using a wireless communication device, the method comprising computer-implemented steps of:

(a) using the web site to receive a geographical location associated with the wireless communication device, while such wireless communication device is in communication with the web site, wherein the geographic location is determined by using the wireless communication device to identify, via WiFi, a MAC Address of at least one router having a known corresponding position;

(b) using the web site to save the geographical location on the wireless communication device, wherein the location is saved in association with the Internet user;

(c) using the web site to identify a computer signature of the wireless communication device, while the wireless communication device is in communication with the web site, wherein the computer signature is identified by at least one identifier which is installed on the wireless communication device; and

further comprising;

(d) using the web site to reply to the web inquiry from the wireless communication device by providing search results associated with the saved geographical location back to the wireless communication device.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein the wireless communication device is one of the following devices:

a) computer;

b) mobile wireless terminal;

c) smart phone;

d) PDA;

e) mobile computer;

f) laptop computer;

g) mini-laptop; and

h) any device with computing and wireless communication capability.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein said computer signature is comprised of at least one of:

(a) Computer Network MAC address;

(b) Gateway or Router MAC Address shared with other users;

(c) Operating system version;

(d) Disk Size;

(e) Internet browser version;

(f) hardware information installed on the computer;

(g) software information installed on the computer

(h) network card speed;

(i) Operating system patches installed on the computer;

(j) CPU speed;

(k) memory size;

(1) virtual memory size;

(m) software identifier;

(n) WiFi unique ID;

(o) WiMax unique ID;

(p) unique computer signature;

(q) common software identifier;

(r) unique network identifier shared with other users;

(s) few common computer identifier;

(t) few common software identifier; and

(u) few common network identifier.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the computer signature is comprised of at least one of:

(a) cookie;

(b) secret cookie;

(c) unique software identifier;

(d) network identifier; and

(e) common software identifier.

5. A computer-implemented method of providing search results by a web site responsive to a web enquiry made by an Internet user using a wireless communication device, the method comprising computer-implemented steps of:

(a) using the web site to receive a geographical location associated with the wireless communication device, wherein the geographic location is determined by using the wireless communication device to identify, via WiFi, a MAC Address of at least one WiFi device having a known corresponding position, while the Internet user is in communication with the web site;

(b) using the web site to save the geographical location on the wireless communication device, wherein the location is saved in association with the Internet user;

(c) using the web site to identify a computer signature of the Internet user'"'"'s wireless communication device wherein the computer signature is identified by at least one identifier which is installed on the wireless communication device;

(d) using the web site to receive the web enquiry from the wireless communication device ; and

(e) using the web site to reply to the web inquiry from the-Internet user'"'"'s wireless communication device by providing search results associated with the saved geographical location to the wireless communication device.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 wherein the wireless communication device is one of the following devices:

(a) computer;

(b) mobile wireless terminal;

(c) smart phone;

(d) PDA;

(e) mobile computer;

(f) laptop computer;

(g) mini-laptop; and

(h) any device with computing and wireless communication capability.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 wherein the computer signature is comprised of at least one of:

(a) Computer Network MAC address;

(b) Gateway or Router MAC Address shared with other users;

(c) Operating system version;

(d) Disk Size;

(e) Internet browser version;

(f) hardware information installed on the computer;

(g) software information installed on the computer

(h) network card speed;

(i) Operating system patches installed on the computer;

(j) CPU speed;

(k) memory size;

(1) virtual memory size;

(m) software identifier;

(n) WiFi unique ID;

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 5, wherein the computer signature is comprised of at least one of:

(a) cookie;

(b) secret cookie;

(c) unique software identifier;

(d) network identifier; and

(e) common software identifier.

9. A computer-implemented method of providing search results by a web site responsive to a web enquiry made using a wireless communication device of an Internet user, the method comprising the computer-implemented steps of:

(a) using the web site to receive a geographical location of the wireless communication device while the Internet user is in communication with the web site via the wireless communication device, wherein the geographic location is determined by using the wireless communication device to identify, via WiFi, a MAC Address of at least one WiFi device having a known corresponding position;

(b) using the web site to save the geographical location on the wireless communication device, wherein the location is saved in association with the Internet user;

(c) using the web site to identify a computer signature of the wireless communication device wherein the computer signature is identified by at least one identifier which is installed on the wireless communication device;

(d) using the web site to receive the web inquiry from the wireless communication device ; and

(e) using the web site to reply to the web enquiry from the wireless communication device with an answer that relates to the saved geographical location of the wireless communication device.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 9 wherein the wireless communication device is one of the following devices:

(a) computer;

(b) mobile wireless terminal;

(c) smart phone;

(d) PDA;

(e) mobile computer;

(f) laptop computer;

(g) mini-laptop; and

(h) a device with computing and wireless communication capability.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 9 wherein the computer signature is comprised of at least one of:

(a) Computer Network MAC address;

(b) Gateway or Router MAC Address shared with other users;

(c) Operating system version;

(d) Disk Size;

(e) Internet browser version;

(f) hardware information installed on the computer;

(g) software information installed on the computer (h) network card speed;
