Microprocessor controlled security tag
First Claim
1. A method of individual monitoring, comprising:
- a) obtaining a microprocessor controlled security tag comprising a connecting band electrically coupled to said security tag, a receiver, and a transmitter;
b) obtaining a quadrature antenna in communication with said receiver and said transmitter of said security tag;
c) sending a signal from said antenna to said receiver of said security tag;
d) if security tag is physically located within a selected range of distance relative to said antenna, returning a signal from said security tag transmitter to said antenna;
e) inductively interfacing said security tag with a tag activator/deactivator;
f) checking power levels of said security tag via said inductive interface; and
g) activating/deactivating said security tag via said inductive interface.

Abstract
A microprocessor controlled security tag and accompanying security system is described. The tag generally includes a housing having external contacts to interface with elongated contacts on a connecting band. The band forms a complex impedance circuit with a patient'"'"'s limb that allows detection features such as removal and band compromise. A microprocessor and related circuitry as well as a transmitter and receivers are enclosed in the housing. The tag is adapted to communicate inductively with an activator/deactivator unit as well as a tag programmer that updates and changes tag features in the tag firmware. The overall system further includes a hub to receive the data from a plurality of tags in the system. The tag can also communicate with a phased multiple antenna that sends signals to the tag.

3. A system for monitoring a plurality of individuals located within a defined area, comprising:
-
a) obtaining a plurality of tags, each said tag of said plurality of tags connected to one of said plurality of individuals via a band; b) obtaining an antenna in communication with said plurality of tags; c) obtaining a plurality of zone receivers and controllers located at and defining a plurality of zone locations; d) transmitting a signal from said antenna to said plurality of tags, said signal comprising a plurality of zone-related signals based upon at least one designated zone location for each said tag of said plurality of tags; e) transmitting a responsive signal from each said tag of said plurality of tags, according to location of each said tag relative to each said zone location designated for each said respective tag within the defined area; and f) activating an alarm response relative to said zone receiver for each said tag and said zone locations respectively designated, wherein said alarm response comprises activation of said zone controllers for each said respective zone location designated for each said tag signaling location other than said at least one designated zone location. - View Dependent Claims (4, 5, 6, 7, 8)
