1. A system for locating an object, comprising:

  • a Master Unit adapted to interface to a Tag to measure distance to the Tag;

    the Master Unit having a first input, wherein the first input comprises any of a pedometer, an altimeter, an accelerometer and a solid-state gyroscope;

    the Tag having a second input from which it can determine a distance the Tag has traveled, wherein the second input comprises any of a pedometer, an altimeter, an accelerometer and a solid-state gyroscope;

    the Master Unit being adapted to transmitting instructions for movement to the Tag and to transmitting information related to the Master Unit'"'"'s movement to the Tag, wherein the information related to the Master Unit'"'"'s movement is obtained from the first input;

    the Master Unit being adapted to receiving information related to the Tag'"'"'s movement from the Tag, wherein the information related to the Tag'"'"'s movement is obtained from the second input;

    the Tag being adapted to receiving the instructions for movement and to receiving the information related to the Master Unit'"'"'s movement;

    the Tag being adapted to transmitting the information related to the Tag'"'"'s movement to the Master Unit;

    the Master Unit being adapted to determine distance to the Tag by using a ranging signal;

    the Master Unit being adapted to determine a position of the Tag after the Tag'"'"'s movement without any additional position reference infrastructure; and

    the Tag being adapted to determine the position of the Tag after the Tag'"'"'s movement without any additional position reference infrastructure.
