1. A method comprising:
- receiving, at a Radio Access Network (RAN) gateway, data in a third generation partnership project (3GPP) wireless format from at least one user equipment (UE);
routing, at the RAN gateway, the data in internet protocol (IP) formatted packets directly through an Internet interface with serving general packet radio service (GPRS) support node (SGSN) functions to bypass a core network; and
tunneling, at the RAN gateway, authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) information related to the at least one UE directly through the Internet interface to a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) at the core network.

Abstract
A Radio Local Area Network (RLAN) includes a Radio Access Network Internet Protocol (RAN IP) gateway that enables connectivity to the public Internet. The system may serve as a stand-alone system or be incorporated into a UMTS used with conventional Core Network, particularly for tracking and implementing AAA functions in the Core Network.
