Abstract

A non-contact power transmission apparatus accurately determines the kind of object that is placed on the charging deck of the non-contact power transmission apparatus, and, only when a non-contact power receiving apparatus is placed on the power transmission apparatus, allows power transmission and data communication to take place, thereby accurately determining the state of the receiver side and efficiently controlling the transmission of power. In the power transmission apparatus, the power supplied to the non-contact power receiving apparatus is measured, and the output power of the wireless power signal output from two different cores is controlled, thereby allowing the charging operation to be stably conducted even if the non-contact power receiving apparatus is moved anywhere on the power transmission apparatus. The power transmission apparatus improves both the reliability of operation of the non-contact charging system, and the competitiveness of related products, such as portable terminals, battery packs and the like.

Claims

1. A method for controlling a power transmission in a non-contact power transmission device, the method comprising:

receiving a header ID code from a non-contact power receiving apparatus;

transmitting a full ID requesting signal to the non-contact power receiving apparatus if the header ID code is received; and

transmitting a wireless power signal to the non-contact power receiving apparatus if a normal ID code is received in response to the full ID requesting signal.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein transmitting the full ID requesting signal comprises:

detecting a load change in a primary core of the non-contact power transmission device when an object is placed adjacent the non-contact power transmission apparatus;

transmitting an asking signal to the object when the load change is detected;

receiving a response signal from the object in response to the asking signal;

measuring a delay time between the time of outputting the asking signal and the time of receiving the response signal;

confirming whether the object is a non-contact power receiving apparatus by comparing the delay time with a reference time; and

transmitting the full ID requesting signal if the object is confirmed as a non-contact power receiving apparatus.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the primary core comprises a first power transmission core and a second power transmission core partially overlapped with the first power transmission core.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the overlapping region between the first and second power transmission cores is greater than a width of a secondary core of the non-contact power receiving apparatus and smaller than widths of the first and the second power transmission cores.

The method of claim 3, wherein transmitting the full ID requesting signal to the non-contact power receiving apparatus comprises transmitting the full ID requesting signal via the first and the second power transmission cores to re-confirm whether the object is a non-contact power receiving apparatus through the normal ID code received in response to the full ID requesting signal.

The method of claim 5, wherein transmitting the wireless power signal to the non-contact power receiving apparatus comprises transmitting the non-contact power signal via at least one of the first and the second power transmission cores if the normal ID code is received by both the first and the second power transmission cores.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a pulse signal from the non-contact power receiving apparatus generated based on a comparison of the wireless power signal to a reference voltage; and

controlling an intensity of the wireless power signal according to the pulse signal.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the pulse signal comprises any one of a power-off code, a gauge code, a power-up code, and a power-down code.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising extracting a code data from the pulse signal via a feedback circuit.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the feedback circuit comprises:

an RC filter circuit electrically connected with an end of the primary core to remove a DC signal component; and

an amplifying circuit having an OP-AMP electrically connected with the RC filter circuit.

17. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the primary core comprises a first power transmission core and a second power transmission core partially overlapped with the first power transmission core.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein an overlapping region is greater than a width of a secondary core of the non-contact power receiving apparatus and smaller than widths of the first and the second power transmission cores.

19. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the power transmission controller is configured to transmit the ID requesting signal to the non-contact power receiving apparatus via the first and the second power transmission cores, and transmit the wireless power signal to the non-contact power receiving apparatus via at least one of the first and the second power transmission cores if the normal ID code is received.

11. A non-contact power transmission apparatus comprising:

a primary core configured to transmit a wireless power signal and a full ID requesting signal;

an ID identifier configured to analyze and process an ID code from a non-contact power receiving apparatus; and

a power transmission controller configured to transmit the full ID requesting signal to the non-contact power receiving apparatus if a header ID code is received from the non-contact power receiving apparatus, and transmit the wireless power signal to the non-contact power receiving apparatus if a normal ID code is received in response to the full ID requesting signal.

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the power transmission controller is configured to detect a load change of a primary core of the non-contact power transmission apparatus when an object is placed adjacent the non-contact power transmission apparatus, transmit an asking signal to the object if the load change is detected, receive a response signal from the object in response to the asking signal, measure a delay time between the time of outputting the asking signal and the time of receiving the response signal, confirm whether the object is a non-contact power receiving apparatus by comparing the delay time with a reference time, and transmit the full ID requesting signal if the object is confirmed as a non-contact power receiving apparatus.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, further comprising:

a series resonance converter configured to transmit the wireless power signal to the primary core; and

an operating driver configured to adjust an intensity of the wireless power signal by controlling the series resonance converter,

wherein the power transmission controller is configured to transmit the full ID requesting signal to the non-contact power receiving apparatus to reconfirm whether the object is a non-contact power receiving apparatus through the ID code received in response to the full ID requesting signal, and transmit a power control signal for controlling the operating driver if the object is confirmed as a non-contact power receiving apparatus.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the power transmission controller is configured to receive a pulse signal from the non-contact power receiving apparatus, the pulse signal comprising any one of a power-off code, a gauge code, a power-up code, and a power-down code.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, further comprising a feedback circuit configured to extract a code data from the pulse signal.

16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the feedback circuit comprises an RC filter circuit electrically connected with an end of the primary core to remove a DC signal component, and an amplifying circuit having an OP-AMP electrically connected with the RC filter circuit.
