24. A method for separating a substance from a fluid and for determining the identity of the substance, comprising:
-
separating a substance from a fluid or an aerosol using a chemical separation unit in an integrated substance separation and analysis device; introducing a solution or a sol gel comprising the nano particles and the substance from the chemical separation unit onto a Raman sensor substrate having an outer surface and a plurality of nano rods, nano holes, or nano particles formed or disposed on the outer surface; allowing molecules of the substance from the fluid or the aerosol to be adsorbed to a metallic material on the surfaces of nano rods, nano holes, or nano particles on the outer surface of the Raman sensor substrate mounted in the integrated chemical separation and analysis device; allowing the solvent in the solution or sol gel to evaporate before the molecules of the substance are adsorbed to the surfaces of the nano particles; emitting a laser beam by a Raman scattering spectrometer unit in the integrated chemical separation and analysis device to illuminate the molecules adsorbed on the surfaces of the plurality of nano rods, nano holes, or nano particles in the Raman sensor substrate; and determining the identity of the substance from the light scattered from the molecules adsorbed on the surfaces of the plurality of nano rods, nano holes, or nano particles on the Raman sensor substrate. - View Dependent Claims (25, 26, 27)
