1. A method for adjusting the thermal behavior of a computing system, comprising:

  • accessing a thermal model algorithm that is stored in memory of a computing system, wherein the thermal model algorithm estimates temperature of a target location in the system based on temperature data from a plurality of temperature sensors that are not at the target location, wherein for the same power consumption state of the computing system, the thermal model algorithm computes a different estimate at a higher ambient temperature than at a lower ambient temperature without estimating or measuring ambient temperature;

    receiving temperature data from the temperature sensors;

    estimating the temperature of the target location using the thermal model algorithm; and

    making a decision on whether or not to change a power consuming activity limit in the computing system, based on the estimated temperature.
