1. A computer-implemented method of displaying a pane in a user interface, comprising:
- in a user interface, displaying an indicator corresponding to an undisplayed pane;
detecting a first selection of the indicator using a pointer icon;
in response to detecting the first selection of the indicator, displaying the pane in the user interface for a first time, wherein display of the pane persists regardless of a position of the pointer icon in the user interface;
while displaying the pane for the first time in response to detecting the first selection, detecting a second selection of the indicator using the pointer icon;
in response to detecting the second selection of the indicator, ceasing to display the pane for a first time;
after the pane has ceased to display for the first time;
while the pane is not displayed, detecting positioning of the pointer icon over the indicator corresponding to the pane, without detecting selection of the indicator;
in response to detecting the positioning of the pointer icon over the indicator, displaying the pane in the user interface for a second time, wherein display of the pane persists while the pointer icon is positioned over the indicator or within the perimeter of the pane;
while displaying the pane for the second time in response to detecting the positioning of the pointer icon over the indicator, detecting that the pointer icon is no longer positioned over the indicator or within the perimeter of the pane; and
in response to detecting that the pointer icon is no longer positioned over the indicator or within the perimeter of the pane, ceasing to display the pane for a second time.

Abstract
A computer-implemented method of displaying a pane in a user interface includes two display modes. In the first display mode, the pane is displayed in the user interface, wherein display of the pane persists regardless of a position of a pointer icon in the user interface, and display of the pane ceases in response to selection of an indicator. In the second display mode, the pane is displayed in the user interface, wherein display of the pane persists while the pointer icon is positioned over the indicator or within the perimeter of the pane, and display of the pane ceases in response to detecting that the pointer icon is no longer positioned over the indicator or within the perimeter of the pane.
