Abstract

Quantifying devices and methods are disclosed for quantifying substrate content using a biosensor where the methods include a first detecting step for detecting an electrical change generated between a measuring electrode and a counter electrode of a biosensor by applying a sample liquid to the biosensor; a second detecting step for detecting an electrical change generated between a detecting electrode of the biosensor and the counter electrode or the measuring electrode by applying the sample liquid to the biosensor; and a notification step for informing a user when the second detecting step does not occur within a predetermined period after the first detecting step.

Claims

1. A method of quantifying substrate content comprising:

a first detecting step for detecting an electrical change generated between a measuring electrode and a counter electrode of a biosensor by applying a sample liquid to the biosensor;

a second detecting step for detecting an electrical change generated between a detecting electrode of the biosensor and the counter electrode or the measuring electrode by applying the sample liquid to the biosensor; and

a notification step for informing a user when the second detecting step does not occur within a predetermined period after the first detecting step.

2. The method of claim 1, where the biosensor comprises:

a first insulating support;

a second insulating support;

a supply path for introducing the sample liquid to the electrodes; and

a reagent layer for quantifying a substrate included in the sample liquid;

wherein the electrodes, the supply path, and the reagent layer are situated between the first insulating support and the second insulating support,

the supply path being provided on the electrodes, and

the electrodes being formed from an electrically conductive layer that is formed on all or part of an internal surface of one or both of the first insulating support and the second insulating support.

3. A quantifying device providing the quantifying method in claim 2, which comprises:

a first current/voltage conversion circuit for converting an electric current from the measuring electrode to a voltage;

a second current/voltage conversion circuit for converting an electric current from the detecting electrode to a voltage;

a first analog/digital (A/D) conversion circuit for converting the voltage from the first current/voltage conversion circuit; and

a second A/D conversion circuit for converting the voltage from the second current/voltage conversion circuit;

wherein the sample liquid is supplied to the reagent layer in the supply path, an electric change is generated between the measuring electrode and the counter electrode, and a means is provided for informing the user that no change is generated when a control part detects that an electric change is not generated between the detecting electrode and the measuring electrode or the counter electrode.

4. The quantifying device as defined in claim 3, which comprises:

a first switch for switching the connection of the detecting electrode to the first current/voltage conversion circuit or to ground (GND), and

a control part controlling the first A/D conversion circuit, the second A/D conversion circuit, and the first switch.

5. The quantifying device as defined in claim 4, which comprises:

a second switch for switching the connection of the measuring electrode to the second current/voltage conversion circuit or to GND, and

a control part controlling the first A/D conversion circuit, the second A/D conversion circuit, the first switch, and the second switch.
