Abstract

Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide a gaming system, gaming device, and method providing a card game having a discarded card re-insertion feature. Upon receiving a primary wager, the gaming system provides a play of a card game in which the gaming system enables the player to select one or more cards in a player'"'"'s hand to discard and in which, if the gaming system discards any of the cards in the player'"'"'s hand, the gaming system replaces at least one of the discarded cards with a replacement card. The gaming system enables the player to place an optional secondary wager to cause the gaming system to activate the discarded card re-insertion feature. If the discarded card re-insertion feature is active, the gaming system enables the player to cause zero or at least one of any discarded cards to be re-inserted into the player'"'"'s hand.

Claims

1. A gaming system comprising:

at least one display device;

at least one input device;

at least one processor; and

at least one memory device storing a plurality of instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to operate with the at least one display device and the at least one input device to, for a play of a card game;

(a) receive a primary wager and a secondary wager;

(b) randomly select a first plurality of cards from a set of a plurality of cards to form a player'"'"'s first hand, and display the player'"'"'s first hand;

(c) receive from the player a selection of one of;

zero of the displayed cards, one of the displayed cards, and a plurality of the displayed cards in the player'"'"'s first hand to discard, and discard any selected displayed cards; and

(d) if any of the displayed cards in the player'"'"'s first hand were discarded;

(i) replace each discarded card with a replacement card from the set of cards to form a player'"'"'s second hand, and display the player'"'"'s second hand;

(ii) receive from the player a selection of one of;

zero of the replacement cards and at least one of the replacement cards in the player'"'"'s second hand to replace;

(iii) if at least one of the replacement cards was selected;

(A) replace at least one of the selected replacement cards with one of the discarded cards to form a player'"'"'s third hand, and display the player'"'"'s third hand; and

(B) determine and provide any awards associated with the player'"'"'s third hand; and

(iv) if zero of the replacement cards were selected, determine and provide any awards associated with the player'"'"'s second hand.

2. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor, if at least one of the replacement cards was selected, for one of the selected replacement cards, to replace said selected replacement card with the discarded card that said selected replacement card replaced.

3. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to determine any awards associated with the player'"'"'s third hand based on the primary wager and not based on the secondary wager.

4. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to operate with the at least one input device to receive the secondary wager before randomly selecting and displaying the player'"'"'s first hand.

5. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to operate with the at least one input device to receive the secondary wager after displaying the player'"'"'s second hand.

6. The gaming system of claim 1, wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor, if none of the cards in the player'"'"'s first hand were discarded, to determine and provide any awards associated with the player'"'"'s first hand.

8. The method of claim 1, which includes causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions, if at least one of the replacement cards was selected, for one of the selected replacement cards, to replace said selected replacement card with the discarded card that said selected replacement card replaced.

9. The method of claim 1, which includes causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to determine any awards associated with the player'"'"'s third hand based on the primary wager and not based on the secondary wager.

10. The method of claim 1, which includes causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions operate with the at least one input device to receive the secondary wager before randomly selecting and displaying the player'"'"'s first hand.

11. The method of claim 1, which includes causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to operate with the at least one input device to receive the secondary wager after displaying the player'"'"'s second hand.

12. The method of claim 1, which includes causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions, if none of the cards in the player'"'"'s first hand were discarded, to determine and provide any awards associated with the player'"'"'s first hand.

7. A method of operating a gaming system, said method comprising:

(a) causing at least one processor to execute a plurality of instructions stored in at least one memory device to operate with at least one input device to receive a primary wager and a secondary wager;

(b) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to randomly select a first plurality of cards from a set of a plurality of cards to form a player'"'"'s first hand, and operate with at least one display device to display the player'"'"'s first hand;

(c) causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to operate with the at least one input device to receive from the player a selection of one of;

zero of the displayed cards, one of the displayed cards, and a plurality of the displayed cards in the player'"'"'s first hand to discard, and discard any selected displayed cards; and

(d) if any of the displayed cards in the player'"'"'s first hand were discarded, causing the at least one processor to execute the plurality of instructions to;

(i) replace each discarded card with a replacement card from the set of cards to form a player'"'"'s second hand, and operate with the at least one display device to display the player'"'"'s second hand;

(ii) operate with the at least one input device to receive from the player a selection of one of;

zero of the replacement cards and at least one of the replacement cards in the player'"'"'s second hand to replace;

(iii) if at least one of the replacement cards was selected;

(A) replace at least one of the selected replacement cards with one of the discarded cards to form a player'"'"'s third hand, and operate with the at least one display device to display the player'"'"'s third hand; and

(B) determine and provide any awards associated with the player'"'"'s third hand; and

(iv) if zero of the replacement cards were selected, determine and provide any awards associated with the player'"'"'s second hand.

13. The method of claim 7, which is provided through a data network.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the data network is an internet.

15. A non-transitory computer readable medium including a plurality of instructions which, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:

(a) operate with an input device to receive a primary wager and a secondary wager;

(b) randomly select a first plurality of cards from a set of a plurality of cards to form a player'"'"'s first hand, and cause a display device to display the player'"'"'s first hand;

(c) operate with the input device to receive from the player a selection of one of;

zero of the displayed cards, one of the displayed cards, and a plurality of the displayed cards in the player'"'"'s first hand to discard, and discard any selected displayed cards; and

(d) if any of the displayed cards in the player'"'"'s first hand were discarded;

(i) replace each discarded card with a replacement card from the set of cards to form a player'"'"'s second hand, and cause the display device to display the player'"'"'s second hand;

(ii) operate with the input device to receive from the player a selection of one of;

zero of the replacement cards and at least one of the replacement cards in the player'"'"'s second hand to replace;

(iii) if at least one of the replacement cards was selected;

(A) replace at least one of the selected replacement cards with one of the discarded cards to form a player'"'"'s third hand, and cause the display device to display the player'"'"'s third hand; and

(B) determine and provide any awards associated with the player'"'"'s third hand; and

(iv) if zero of the replacement cards were selected, determine and provide any awards associated with the player'"'"'s second hand.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15, wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor, if at least one of the replacement cards was selected, for one of the selected replacement cards, to replace said selected replacement card with the discarded card that said selected replacement card replaced.

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15, wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to determine any awards associated with the player'"'"'s third hand based on the primary wager and not based on the secondary wager.

18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15, wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to operate with the at least one input device to receive the secondary wager before randomly selecting and displaying the player'"'"'s first hand.

19. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15, wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to operate with the at least one input device to receive the secondary wager after displaying the player'"'"'s second hand.

20. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15, wherein the plurality of instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor, if none of the cards in the player'"'"'s first hand were discarded, to determine and provide any awards associated with the player'"'"'s first hand.
