1. A pod for supporting a head and neck region of a patient during radiation treatment, the pod comprising:

  • a shell generally conforming to the head and neck region of the patient, the shell comprising a shell caudal end, a cephalad end, and the shell extending upwardly from an inner surface of the shell and around the sides of the patient'"'"'s head forming a channel, the shell tapering to a smaller thickness as the shell extends upwardly from the inner surface of the shell;

    a facemask configured to attach to an outer surface of the shell to immobilize the patient, the facemask having a first facemask lateral edge and a second facemask lateral edge and configured to extend laterally in the head and neck region of the patient; and

    a facemask-to-shell attachment system comprisinga first pin formed in an outer surface of the shell on one side of the patient'"'"'s heads,a second pin formed on an outer surface of the shell on the other side of the patient'"'"'s,a first receiving slot near the first facemask lateral edge to receive the first pin, anda second receiving slot near the second facemask lateral edge to receive the second pin.
