1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

  • at a server system having memory and one or more processors, wherein there is an existing wireless communication channel between the server system and a mobile device and the wireless communication supports a predefined communication protocol;

    receiving, from the mobile device, a first set of data fields required by the communication protocol and signature information for activating an application on the mobile device via the communication channel;

    processing the signature information to authorize the activation of the application on the mobile device; and

    returning, to the mobile device, a second set of data fields required by the communication protocol and one or more instructions to activate the application on the mobile device based on said signature information via the communication channel, wherein the one or more instructions, when executed by the mobile device, cause the mobile device to perform one or more predefined operations to activate the application on the mobile device.
