1. A scanning system comprising an optical reader and a scanning region through which said optical reader is passable, said optical reader comprising plural fluorophore excitation sources, plural emission detectors, and an objective lens, said system characterized by said optical reader operatively supported for reversible travel with respect to said scanning region within which a scanning target is positionable, an emission detector of said plural emission detectors being a common first emission detector corresponding to a first fluorophore excitation source and a second fluorophore excitation source of said plural fluorophore excitation sources wherein both a first fluorophore emission originating from excitation of a first fluorophore of the scanning target and a second fluorophore emission originating from excitation of a second fluorophore of the target are detectable by said common first emission detector.
