1. An apparatus comprising:
- a first port configured to connect to a first end of a cable to provide a communication link between (i) the first port, and (ii) a second port, wherein the second port is connected to a second end of the cable, and wherein the second port includes an indicator to indicate a state of the communication link; and
a processor in communication with the first port, wherein the processor is configured toduring a time that (i) the first end of the cable is connected to the first port, and (ii) the second end of the cable is connected to the second port, receive a command to identify the second port to which the second end of the cable is connected, andin response to the command, repeatedly change the state of the communication link at the first port in accordance with a pattern, andwherein the second port, to which the second end of the cable is connected is identifiable based on the indicator of the second port indicating the pattern in which the communication link at the first port is being repeatedly changed by the processor.

Abstract
An apparatus including: a first port configured to receive a first end of a cable to provide a communication link between (i) the first port, and (ii) a second port coupled to a second end of the cable. The apparatus further includes a processor configured to, during a time that the first end of the cable is coupled to the first port and the second end of the cable is coupled to the second port, (i) receive a command to identify the second port to which the second end of the cable is coupled, and (ii) in response to the command, repeatedly change the state of the communication link at the first port in accordance with a pattern.

13. A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon machine executable instructions executable by a processor, where the machine executable instructions comprise:
-
receiving, in an apparatus having a first port connected to a first end of a cable, a command to identify a second port to which a second end of the cable is coupled, wherein the cable provides a communication link between (i) the first port, and (ii) the second port coupled to the second end of the cable; and in response to the command, repeatedly changing a state of the communication link at the first port in accordance with a pattern, wherein the second port to which the second end of the cable is coupled is identifiable based on an indicator of the second port indicating the pattern in which the communication link at the first port is being repeatedly changed. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15)
