Abstract

An automated banking machine operates to cause financial transfers responsive to data read from data bearing records. The automated banking machine includes a card reader that is operative to read card data corresponding to financial accounts from user cards. The card data is linked in at least one data store to data indicating that the card data corresponds to a financial account that is authorized to be used to conduct at least one transaction through use of the automated banking machine. The automated banking machine may be used to carry out financial transfers involving financial accounts by users who are determined to be authorized users of such accounts. Data corresponding to a financial account can also be linked to a mobile wireless device through inputs by an authorized user through an input device of the automated banking machine.

Claims

1. Apparatus comprising:

an automated banking machine operable to cause financial transfers responsive at least in part to data read from data bearing records, including;

a card reader, wherein the card reader is operative to read card data from user cards, wherein the card data corresponds to financial accounts,

at least one machine input device, wherein the at least one machine input device is operative to receive inputs from machine users,

a display, wherein the display is operative to provide visual outputs,

a cash dispenser, wherein the cash dispenser is operative to selectively cause cash stored in the machine to be made available to machine users,

at least one processor associated with the automated banking machine,

wherein the at least one processor is in operative connection with the card reader, the at least one machine input device, the display, and the cash dispenser,

wherein the at least one processor is operative to cause;

the card reader to read first card data from a user card,

the display to output a prompt for a user to input a personal identification number (PIN),

at least one PIN input to be received through the at least one machine input device,

a determination to be made, responsive at least in part to communication between the at least one processor and at least one remote computer remote from the machine,

that the first card data corresponds to a financial account on which financial transactions can be conducted at the machine, and

that the at least one PIN corresponds to an authorized user of the financial account,

wherein the at least one processor is operative responsive at least in part to the determination, to

enable at least one device identifying input to be received through the at least one machine input device,

wherein the at least one device identifying input uniquely corresponds to a communication address for a mobile wireless device of the authorized user, and

enable data corresponding to the device identifying input to be stored in associated relation with data corresponding with the financial account in a data store associated with at least one first computer remote from the machine,

wherein operative communication between the mobile wireless device and the at least one first computer enables at least one mobile wireless transaction to be carried out involving the financial account.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1

wherein the at least one mobile wireless transaction includes at least one of:

an account balance inquiry regarding the financial account, or

a transfer of funds at least one of to or from the financial account.

3. The apparatus according to claim 1 and further comprising:

the at least one first computer,

at least one second computer remote from the automated banking machine and other than the at least one first computer,

wherein the at least one second computer is in operation with at least one data store,

wherein the at least one second computer is operative to cause transfers to and from the financial account,

and wherein the at least one second computer is operative to provide communications with each of the automated banking machine and the at least one first computer through use of the same message format.

4. Apparatus comprising:

an automated banking machine operable to cause financial transfers responsive at least in part to data read from data bearing records, wherein the machine includes;

a card reader operable to read card data usable to identify a financial account on which financial transactions can be carried out,

a cash dispenser operable to selectively dispense cash from storage in the machine to authorized machine users,

wherein the machine is operable to carry out a cash dispense transaction involving a financial account identified through use of card data read by the card reader,

at least one input device,

wherein the at least one input device is operable to receive inputs from machine users,

at least one processor associated with the machine,

wherein the at least one processor is operable,

responsive at least in part to;

determination by at least one computer that card data read by the card reader corresponds to a financial account usable for authorization of at least one financial transaction carried out with the machine, and

reception by the at least one input device of at least one device identifying input which corresponds to a communication address uniquely associated with a mobile wireless device that includes at least one manual input device,

to enable at least one transaction involving the financial account to be carried out with the mobile wireless device, responsive at least in part to at least one input to the at least one manual input device.

5. The apparatus according to claim 4 wherein the machine includes the at least one processor.

6. The apparatus according to claim 4

wherein the at least one processor is operable to cause:

data corresponding to the financial account, and

data corresponding to the at least one device identifying input,

to be stored in at least one data store, which is

accessible by at least one first computer, which is both;

remotely located from the machine, and

operable to communicate with the mobile wireless device.

7. The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the machine is operable to communicate with a transaction host computer operable to cause a cash dispense value to be assessed to the financial account, wherein the at least one first computer differs from the transaction host computer.

8. The apparatus according to claim 7 wherein the at least one first computer is operable to receive communicated data corresponding to a requested transaction sent from the mobile wireless device,

wherein the at least one first computer is operable to then cause to be communicated to the transaction host computer,

data corresponding to the financial account, and

data corresponding to the communicated data.

9. The apparatus according to claim 4

wherein the automated banking machine further includes a display,

wherein the machine is operable to cause the display to output a request for user input of the at least one device identifying input.

10. The apparatus according to claim 9 wherein the machine is operable to cause the display to output a query concerning interest by a machine user in using the mobile wireless device to carry out transactions involving the financial account,

wherein the machine is operable to cause the request to be output based at least in part on query response input received from the machine user through the at least one input device.

11. The apparatus according to claim 4 wherein the at least one device identifying input includes a phone number associated with the mobile wireless device.

12. The apparatus according to claim 4 wherein the at least one device identifying input corresponds to a network address associated with the mobile wireless device.

13. The apparatus according to claim 4 wherein the at least one transaction to be carried out with the mobile wireless device comprises at least one of

a balance inquiry regarding the financial account, or

a monetary transfer at least one of to or from the financial account.

14. Apparatus comprising:

at least one processor associated with an automated banking machine that includes

at least one machine input device comprising at least one user data reader,

wherein the at least one processor is operable to cause;

account data which corresponds to a financial account identified through use of user data read by the at least one user data reader, and

address data which corresponds to a communication address received from a machine user through the at least one machine input device,

wherein the communication address is uniquely associated with a mobile wireless communication device,

to be stored in associated relation in at least one data store that is usable by at least one remotely located computer in allowing usage of the mobile wireless communication device in carrying out at least one financial transaction involving the financial account.

15. The apparatus according to claim 14

wherein the at least one user data reader includes a card reader, wherein the card reader is operable to read from user cards, card data corresponding to financial accounts,

wherein the at least one processor is operable to cause to be stored in the at least one data store, account data corresponding to a financial account read by the card reader,

wherein the machine includes a cash dispenser, wherein the cash dispenser is operable to dispense cash to machine users authorized responsive in part to card data read by the card reader,

wherein the at least one machine input device includes at least one other input device that differs from the card reader,

wherein the at least one other input device is operable to receive the communication address.

16. The apparatus according to claim 14 wherein the machine includes the at least one processor.

The apparatus according to claim 14 wherein the at least one processor is operable to cause the account data and the address data to be stored in at least one data store, responsive at least in part to determination by at least one remote computer that the financial account is usable for authorization of at least one financial transaction carried out with the machine.

18. The apparatus according to claim 14 wherein the communication address comprises a phone number associated with the mobile wireless communication device.

19. The apparatus according to claim 14 wherein the communication address comprise a network address associated with the mobile wireless communication device.

20. The apparatus according to claim 14 wherein the at least one financial transaction allowed to be carried out through usage of the mobile wireless communication device comprises at least one of:

a balance inquiry regarding the financial account, or

a monetary transfer at least one of to or from the financial account.
