1. An apparatus comprising:
- a primary cannula having dimensions suitable for insertion into one of a renal artery or a renal segmental artery, the primary cannula comprising a first end, a second end and a medial portion along a length of the primary cannula between the first end and the second end;
a balloon assembly coupled to the first end of the primary cannula;
a delivery cannula extending through the primary cannula and the balloon assembly, the delivery cannula having an occluded distal end that terminates at a point distal to the balloon assembly; and
at least one longitudinally disposed opening formed through a portion of a wall of the delivery cannula that is between the distal end of the delivery cannula and the balloon assembly, wherein the at least one longitudinally disposed opening is dimensioned to deliver a treatment agent into the renal artery or renal segmental artery in a direction substantially perpendicular to a direction of blood flow to create turbulent conditions within the renal artery or the renal segmental artery.

Abstract
A method is described including introducing a delivery device to a point within a renal artery or a renal segmental artery and delivering a treatment agent from the delivery device according to conditions that create a turbulent blood flow and wherein the treatment agent is capable of inhibiting a biological process contributing to nephropathy. In other embodiments, an apparatus and kit are described including a delivery device for insertion to a point within a renal artery or renal segmental artery and delivery of a treatment agent capable of inhibiting a biological process contributing to nephropathy.
