1. A method for crossing through an anatomical structure, the method comprising:

  • advancing an elongate member intravascularly to a location proximate an anatomical structure, the elongate member having a proximal end removably coupled to a housing and a drive shaft rotatably disposed within the elongate member extending from a motor positioned in the housing to a distal tip rotatably disposed at a distal end of the elongate member;

    rotating the drive shaft within the elongate member with the motor to thereby rotate the distal tip;

    forming an opening through the anatomical structure with the distal tip while rotating the drive shaft within the elongate member with the motor;

    decoupling the housing from the elongate member while retaining a distal portion of the elongate member proximate the opening; and

    advancing an access device over the elongate member to the anatomical structure after decoupling the housing from the elongate member.
