Methods for operating chemically-sensitive sample and hold sensors
First Claim
1. A method for operating an apparatus comprising a plurality of chemically sensitive sensors arranged in rows and columns, comprising:
- generating timing signals, row select signals and column select signals;
sampling and holding signal samples indicating reactions occurring in the plurality of sensors in a row of the array in response to the timing signals;
enabling column output circuits coupled to corresponding sensors in the row in response to the column select signals; and
outputting the signal samples to the column output circuits from the plurality of sensors in the row in response to the row select signals.

Abstract
Methods and apparatus relating to very large scale FET arrays for analyte measurements. ChemFET (e.g., ISFET) arrays may be fabricated using conventional CMOS processing techniques based on improved FET pixel and array designs that increase measurement sensitivity and accuracy, and at the same time facilitate significantly small pixel sizes and dense arrays. Improved array control techniques provide for rapid data acquisition from large and dense arrays. Such arrays may be employed to detect a presence and/or concentration changes of various analyte types in a wide variety of chemical and/or biological processes. In one example, chemFET arrays facilitate DNA sequencing techniques based on monitoring changes in hydrogen ion concentration (pH), changes in other analyte concentration, and/or binding events associated with chemical processes relating to DNA synthesis.

12. A method for operating a sensor comprising a chemically-sensitive field effect transistor (chemFET), the method comprising:
-
applying a voltage between a first terminal and a second terminal of the chemFET; sensing current through the chemFET in response to the applied voltage, the sensed current based on a threshold voltage of the chemFET; and generating an output signal of the sensor indicating the sensed current, wherein sensing current through the chemFET comprises using a sample and hold capacitor to sample a voltage at a node indicating the sensed current; and the output signal is generated based on the sampled voltage. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19)
