A corrosion sensing system comprisinga reader,a radiation receiving device,a sensing transponder, anda member,wherein said sensing transponder includesa communications device,a processor, anda sensor,wherein said member is subject to corrosion,wherein said sensor is located to detect corrosion of said member,wherein said radiation receiving device is connected to deliver an excitation voltage to said sensor,wherein said communications device is connected for transmitting sensor data, andwherein data from said sensor is conditioned to provide sensor data ratiometric with magnitude of said excitation voltage provided by said radiation receiving device to said sensor,wherein said sensing transponder is powered by electricity derived from electromagnetic radiation transmitted by said reader that is received by said radiation receiving device.
