Abstract

A pre-molded or moldable shaft grip includes a pre-configured or moldable section disposed within a substantially circular outer grip layer. A pre-configured or moldable section substantially conforms to a player'"'"'s grip, facilitating consistent finger placement. The pre-configured section may comprise the shaft, a separate section, or multiple sections of varying durometer. The moldable section may include a layer of moldable material, or a cavity disposed between the outer grip layer and the shaft containing a moldable substance. Overall grip durometer can be adjusted by varying the pressure within the cavity.

Claims

1. A golf club grip comprising:

a body disposed around a golf club shaft, the body comprising an inner section and an outer section, the body further including a sub-chamber disposed between the inner and outer sections;

a hardening agent inserted into the sub-chamber, the hardening agent being adapted to be molded into a shape by a player'"'"'s grip and to substantially maintain the shape of the player'"'"'s grip after the hardening agent has hardened, the hardened hardening agent having a higher durometer than the outer section;

wherein the outer section substantially conforms to the player'"'"'s grip when gripped, and returns to and maintains a substantially circular cross section upon release by the player'"'"'s grip, hardened hardening agent continuing to substantially maintain the shape of the player'"'"'s grip while the released portion of the outer section returns to the substantially circular cross section; and

wherein the inner section has a substantially geometric cross section along the length of the inner section as the body is gripped by the player.

2. The golf club grip of claim 1 wherein the geometric cross section is substantially circular.

3. The golf club grip of claim 1, wherein the body comprises a closed-cell foam.

4. A golf club grip comprising:

A unitary body disposed around a golf club shaft, the unitary body comprising an inner section, an outer section, at least one divider, and a cavity, the cavity comprising a plurality of sub-chambers disposed between the inner and outer sections, the plurality of sub-chambers having an agent that conforms to a player'"'"'s grip for a period of time after the golf club grip is gripped and released, the agent having a higher durometer than the unitary body, the plurality of sub-chambers being separated from each other by at least one of the at least one divider, the at least one divider extending between the inner section and the outer section;

wherein the outer section substantially conforms to the player'"'"'s grip when gripped, the agent continuing to conform to the player'"'"'s grip while, upon release from the player'"'"'s grip, the outer section returns to a substantially circular cross section.

5. The golf club grip of claim 4, wherein the agent is a hardening agent, wherein the hardening agent substantially maintains the shape of the player'"'"'s grip after the hardening agent has hardened.

6. The golf club grip of claim 4, wherein the unitary body comprises a closed-cell foam.

7. A golf club grip comprising:

a body disposed around a golf club shaft, the body comprising an inner section and an outer section;

wherein the outer section substantially conforms to the player'"'"'s grip when gripped and returns to and maintains a substantially circular cross section upon release by the player'"'"'s grip;

a plurality of sub-chambers disposed between the inner section and the outer section, the plurality of sub-chambers having an agent that conforms to a player'"'"'s grip for a period of time after the body is gripped by the player, the agent continuing to conform to the player'"'"'s grip while, upon release from the player'"'"'s grip, the outer section returns to the substantially circular cross section.

8. The golf club grip of claim 7 wherein a geometric cross section of the inner section is substantially circular as the body is gripped by the player.

9. The golf club grip of claim 8, wherein the inner section comprises a closed-cell foam.
