1. A monitoring device comprising:
- a processor; and
a memory including computer program code, the memory and the computer program code configured to, with the processor, cause the monitoring device to at least;
receive an indication of a triggering event, wherein the triggering event is a movement of the monitoring device, a movement of another monitoring device or an alarm event of the another monitoring device; and
transition the monitoring device into a triggered role in response to receiving the indication of the triggering event, the triggered role being one of a tag role or a node role,wherein the tag role includes configuring the processor to determine location information relating to the monitoring device, and wherein the node role includes configuring the processor to transmit a ping signal.
