Abstract

In some embodiments, a method of reducing adjacent channel power ratio and compensating memory effects of multi-channel wideband communication systems using multiplexing modulation techniques is provided. The method includes generating an address from samples of a baseband input signal of a communication system. The method also includes retrieving from a memoryless lookup table an entry in accordance with the address. The method further includes pre-equalizing the baseband input signal, the pre-equalization depending on one or more magnitudes of the input signal. The method still further includes multiplying the pre-equalized baseband input signal and the lookup table entry.

Claims

1. A method of reducing adjacent channel power ratio and compensating memory effects of multi-channel wideband communication systems using multiplexing modulation techniques, the method comprising:

generating an address from samples of a baseband input signal of a communication system;

retrieving from a memoryless lookup table an entry in accordance with the address;

pre-equalizing the baseband input signal, the pre-equalization depending on one or more magnitudes of the input signal; and

multiplying the pre-equalized baseband input signal and the lookup table entry,

wherein the pre-equalization comprises multiplying a magnitude of a first delayed version of the input signal with a magnitude of a second delayed version of the input signal and further with a cross-term pre-equalizing coefficient.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the pre-equalization further depends on a magnitude of a non-delayed version of the input signal.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the entries in the lookup table are complex coefficients.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the pre-equalizing comprises applying a piecewise equalization.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein said the piecewise pre-equalizers use a finite impulse response filter rather than an infinite impulse response filter.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the pre-equalizing comprises use of finite impulse response filtering.

7. The method of claim 1 further including updating entries of the memoryless lookup table using an indirect learning method.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein the indirect learning method uses a least mean squares algorithm.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the retrieving comprises applying the following equation:

wherein u(n) is a magnitude of a non-delayed version of the input signal and the round function returns the nearest integer number which is the index (m) and N is the LUT size.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the multiplying comprises applying the following equation:

wherein F_m(|u(n)|) is the complex coefficient of the memoryless LUT, and u(n) is a magnitude of a non-delayed version of the input signal.

11. The method of claim 1 further comprising performing a performing second pre-equalization using the following equation:

wherein y_FI(n) is the input of the multiple equalizers in the feedback path, E(n) the error signal, p the step size, W_k^m(|u(n)|) is the k-th tap and m-th indexed coefficient corresponding to a magnitude of a non-delayed version of the input signal, u(n), and * the complex conjugate.

12. A system for reducing adjacent channel power ratio and compensating memory effects of multi-channel wideband communication systems using multiplexing modulation techniques, the system comprising:

an address generator for generating an address form samples of a baseband input signal of a communication system;

a memoryless lookup table having therein coefficients addressable according to the address;

a multiplier for combining the baseband input signal and the coefficients;

lookup table entry; and

an equalizer for pre-equalizing the multiplier to compensate for memory effects in a power amplifier of the communications system, the pre-equalizing depending on one or more magnitudes of the input signal,

wherein the pre-equalization comprises multiplying a magnitude of a first delayed version of the input signal with a magnitude of a second delayed version of the input signal and further with a cross-term pre-equalizing coefficient.

13. The system of claim 12 wherein the pre-equalization further depends on a magnitude of a non-delayed version of the input signal.

14. The system of claim 12 wherein the coefficients in the lookup table are complex coefficients.

15. The system of claim 12 wherein the pre-equalizing comprises a piecewise equalizer.

16. The system of claim 12 wherein the pre-equalizing comprises a finite impulse response filter.

17. The system of claim 12 wherein the coefficients are updated using an indirect learning method.

18. A method of reducing adjacent channel power ratio and compensating memory effects of multi-channel wideband communication systems using multiplexing modulation techniques, the method comprising:

generating an address from samples of a baseband input signal of a communication system;

retrieving from a memoryless lookup table an entry in accordance with the address;

pre-equalizing the baseband input signal, the pre-equalization depending on a present value of the input signal and one or more delayed values of the input signal; and

multiplying the pre-equalized baseband input signal and the lookup table entry,

wherein the pre-equalization comprises multiplying a first delayed value of the one or more delayed values of the input with a second delayed value of the one or more delayed values of the and further with a cross-term pre-equalizing coefficient.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein the present value of the input signal comprises a magnitude of the input signal and the one or more delayed values of the input signal comprises one or more previously received magnitudes of the input signal.

20. The method of claim 18 wherein entries in the lookup table are complex coefficients.

21. The method of claim 18 wherein the pre-equalizing comprises applying a piecewise equalization.

22. The method of claim 18 wherein the pre-equalizing comprises use of finite impulse response filtering.

23. The method of claim 18 further including updating entries of the memoryless lookup table using an indirect learning method.
