1. A marine electronic device for use in a marine vessel, comprising:

  • a display;

    a memory including cartographic data, the cartographic data including navigational aids for boaters;

    a location determining component for detecting locations of the marine vessel; and

    a processing system coupled with the display, memory and the location determining component, the processing system operable to;

    cause the display to display a marine map including a navigational aid and a boat icon overlaid on the map at a first camera position,calculate a distance from the navigational aid to the detected location of the marine vessel, andadjust the scale of the navigational aid based on the calculated distance;

    wherein the size of the adjusted navigational aid has an upper limit size and a lower limit size;

    wherein the displayed navigational aid gradually becomes larger as the calculated distance decreases; and

    wherein the processing system is further operable to cause the display to display the marine map including the navigational aid and the boat icon overlaid on the map at a second camera position, wherein the scale of the navigational aid smoothly interpolates between the transition from the first camera position to the second camera position.
