Method and system for network-independent QoS
First Claim
1. A data communication system for providing network-independent quality of service, the system including:
- a computing device connected to a node in a first network and configured to apply at least one Quality of Service (“
QoS”
) algorithm that provides quality of service prioritization of traffic to at least one first subset of data communicated to said node or from said node, said device configured to apply said at least one QoS algorithm to said at least one first subset of data and to provide quality of service to said at least one first subset of data at a transport layer of a protocol of said first network;
wherein said device is disconnected from said first network having a first protocol and connected to a node in a second network having a second protocol different from said first protocol, to apply said at least one QoS algorithm to at least one second subset of data communicated in said second network, said device configured to apply said at least one QoS algorithm to said at least one first subset of data independent of said protocol of said first network and to said at least one second subset of data independent of said protocol of said second network;
wherein said at least one QoS algorithm applies an established priority to said at least one first subset of data and at least one second subset of data.

Abstract
The presently described technology provides a computing device capable of being connected to a node in a first network and capable of applying one or more Quality of Service (“QoS”) algorithms to one or more subsets of data communicated in the first network. The device is also capable of applying the QoS algorithms to the subsets of data at or above a transport layer of a protocol of the first network. The presently described technology also provides a method for applying one or more QoS algorithms. The method includes connecting a computing device to a first network and applying the QoS algorithms to one or more subsets of data independent of a protocol of the first network.
