1. A method for controlling operation of exhaust of a turbocharged engine including a particulate filter, comprising:

  • generating vacuum in an intake manifold of the engine during engine operation by reducing engine boost;

    storing the vacuum in the intake manifold;

    during or after engine shutdown, drawing ambient air through the particulate filter via the stored vacuum through an exhaust gas recirculation passage of the engine.
