System for controlling a vehicle with determination of the speed thereof relative to the ground
First Claim
1. A vehicle control system that provides an estimation of an instantaneous speed relative to a ground surface of a vehicle having at least two wheels, each wheel equipped with a wheel sensor for supplying a measurement that is a function of a rotation of the wheel at a given instant, the system comprising:
- (a) for each wheel, a wheel speed indicator for supplying at an instant an indication that is a function of a circumferential wheel speed for the wheel from a measurement of a corresponding wheel sensor of the wheel;
(b) a vehicle speed indicator for producing a vehicle ground speed estimation at that instant as a function of indications obtained from the wheel speed indicators upon completion of a diagnostic test on a condition of the wheels; and
(c) a processor programmed to include a validation unit that performs a first test of a road grip condition of each wheel regardless of a state of the ground surface on which the wheel is rolling, based on slip information of the vehicle,wherein the vehicle speed indicator operates based on information obtained from the validation unit of the processor to produce an instantaneous vehicle speed estimation from an indication of a circumferential wheel speed of at least one wheel whose road grip condition has been ascertained by the first test performed by the validation unit.

Abstract
A control system for controlling a vehicle includes a wheel speed indicator for each of at least two wheels of the vehicle, a vehicle speed indicator, and a processor programmed to include a validation unit. The validation unit performs a first test of a road grip condition of each wheel based on slip information of the vehicle. The vehicle speed indicator produces an instantaneous vehicle speed estimation based on at least one circumferential wheel speed indication ascertained by the validation unit of the processor.

19. A vehicle control system for controlling a vehicle having at least two wheels, based on an indication of an instantaneous slip of at least one wheel subject to at least one of:
- a traction torque and a braking torque when running, the vehicle control system comprising;
for each wheel, a wheel sensor for supplying a measurement that is a function of a rotation of the wheel at a given instant; for each wheel, a wheel speed indicator for supplying an instantaneous indication of a quantity as a function of a circumferential wheel speed for the wheel based on a measurement from a corresponding wheel sensor; a vehicle speed indicator for producing an instantaneous vehicle ground speed estimation as a function of indications obtained from the wheel speed indicators upon completion of a diagnostic test on a condition of the wheels; and a processor programmed to include a validation unit and a computation unit, wherein the validation unit performs a first test of a road grip condition of each wheel regardless of a state of a ground surface on which the wheel is rolling, based on slip information of the vehicle, wherein the vehicle speed indicator operates based on information obtained from the validation unit to produce an instantaneous vehicle speed estimation from an indication of a circumferential wheel speed of at least one wheel whose road grip condition has been ascertained by the first test, and wherein the computation unit operates in response to data from the wheel speed indicators and the vehicle speed indicator at a given instant to supply an indication of a slip of each of the wheels as a function of a difference between the circumferential wheel speed of the wheel and the vehicle ground speed estimation.
- a traction torque and a braking torque when running, the vehicle control system comprising;
