1. A method for controlling systems of a vehicle with a cell phone, the method comprising:
- displaying, with a user interface, a plurality of vehicles that are in active communication with the cell phone;
receiving a selection of one of the plurality of vehicles through the user interface;
associating the cell phone with the selected vehicle through the user interface;
receiving user preferences through the user interface for sending commands from the cell phone to the vehicle for controlling the systems of the vehicle, wherein the user interface enables a user to customize, adjust, or reconfigure the commands;
establishing a wireless connection between the vehicle and the cell phone;
determining a distance between the cell phone and the vehicle;
sending, with the cell phone, a plurality of commands to the vehicle to control the systems based on the user preferences;
receiving, with the cell phone, a plurality of status messages from the vehicle, in response to the plurality of commands; and
displaying, with the cell phone, a status of the vehicle, the status being based on at least one of the plurality of status messages.

14. A cell phone for controlling systems of a vehicle, the cell phone comprising:

a transceiver configured to wirelessly communicate with a vehicle system, the transceiver further configured to determine a distance between the cell phone and the vehicle system; a user interface in communication with the transceiver, the user interface configured to display a plurality of vehicles that are in active communication with the cell phone;
the user interface configured to receive user input to select one of the plurality of vehicles and to associate the selected vehicle with the cell phone, the user interface further configured to receive user preferences linking a plurality of commands with one or more actions of the vehicle system, the user interface further configured to enable a user to customize, adjust, or reconfigure the commands; andcontrol logic in communication with the user interface configured to convert the user input to one of the one or more commands, wherein the transceiver communicates the plurality of commands to the vehicle system to control the systems of the vehicle and to receive a plurality of status messages from the vehicle in response to the plurality of commands, and wherein the user interface displays a status of the vehicle, the status being based on at least one of the plurality of status messages. - View Dependent Claims (15, 16, 17, 18)
