1. A method for controlling systems of a vehicle with a cell phone, the method comprising:

  • displaying, with a user interface, a plurality of vehicles that are in active communication with the cell phone;

    receiving a selection of one of the plurality of vehicles through the user interface;

    associating the cell phone with the selected vehicle through the user interface;

    receiving user preferences through the user interface for sending commands from the cell phone to the vehicle for controlling the systems of the vehicle, wherein the user interface enables a user to customize, adjust, or reconfigure the commands;

    establishing a wireless connection between the vehicle and the cell phone;

    determining a distance between the cell phone and the vehicle;

    sending, with the cell phone, a plurality of commands to the vehicle to control the systems based on the user preferences;

    receiving, with the cell phone, a plurality of status messages from the vehicle, in response to the plurality of commands; and

    displaying, with the cell phone, a status of the vehicle, the status being based on at least one of the plurality of status messages.
