1. A method for an electronic device that comprises an I/O apparatus, the method comprising:

  • enabling the electronic device to be configured to substantially instantaneously trigger a predetermined mode of operation by the detection of a predetermined event, the predetermined mode of operation operable to initiate entering of a routine within a predetermined amount of time following triggering of the predetermined mode;

    upon detecting the predetermined event, enabling the electronic device to substantially instantaneously output for the predetermined amount of time a notification that the electronic device is entering the routine and enabling the user to respond within the predetermined amount of time to the notification to delay or suspend the entering; and

    upon confirming that the entering should not be delayed or suspended, enabling the device to substantially instantaneously enter the routine, the routine substantially instantaneously initiating two or more of the following operations;

    outputting a current time on a display of the I/O apparatus with use of a visual object that is larger than another visual object outputting the current time in another mode of operation;

    suspending output of at least one type of alert that will otherwise be output as one or more of an audio alert, a visual alert, or a tactile alert in response to an occurrence subsequent to the activating of the predetermined mode of operation;

    suspending at least some wireless communications on the electronic device; and

    changing an illumination level of the display from a first illumination level to a second illumination level, the first illumination level being one of a substantially zero level of illumination and a predetermined substantially non-zero level of illumination, the second illumination level being between the substantially zero level of illumination and the predetermined substantially non-zero level of illumination.
