1. A breathing assistance device that comprises a display and that monitors at least one breath cycle parameter, the breathing assistance device comprising:
- a graphical representation associated with the at least one breath cycle parameter wherein the graphical representation is a predetermined shape that dynamically changes in size along at least an x-axis in response to changes of a magnitude of the at least one breath cycle parameter and wherein the size of the predetermined shape of the graphical representation dynamically represents the magnitude of the at least one breath cycle parameter; and
a graphical scale of the at least one breath cycle parameter associated with the graphical representation, wherein the graphical scale is capable of dynamically adjusting based on the magnitude of the at least one breath cycle parameter.

Abstract
The invention is directed to a ventilation control system for controlling the ventilation of a patient. The ventilation control system utilizes a user-friendly user interface for the display of patient data and ventilator status. The user interface includes a graphic representation of a breath cycle that displays the breath cycle currently being ventilated, and is also responsive to changes in ventilation settings to assist the user in evaluation the effect of those changes on the ventilator strategy before the changes are implemented.
