Physiological sensor with a tail
First Claim
1. A sensor comprising:
- a sensor pad having a first layer and a second layer, the second layer defining a plurality of openings; and
a circuit board at least partially disposed in the sensor pad and having a light source configured to generate near-infrared light and a light detector configured to receive near-infrared light, wherein the light source and the light detector are each aligned with one of the openings of the sensor pad so that near-infrared light generated by the light source can travel through a part of a patient'"'"'s body to the light detector and the near-infrared light received by the light detector indicates oxygen saturation of the part of the patient'"'"'s body through which the light travelled, andwherein the circuit board has an integrally formed tail at least partially disposed in the sensor pad, and wherein the sensor pad includes a first overlay disposed on one side of the tail and integrally formed with the first layer and a second overlay disposed on another side of the tail and integrally formed with the second layer, wherein the first and second overlays extend along the entire length of the tail.

Abstract
An exemplary sensor includes a sensor pad defining a plurality of openings and a circuit board. The circuit board is at least partially disposed in the sensor pad and has a light source configured to generate near-infrared light and a light detector configured to receive near-infrared light. The light source and the light detector are each aligned with one of the openings of the sensor pad so that near-infrared light generated by the light source can travel through a part of a patient'"'"'s body to the light detector and the near-infrared light received by the light detector indicates oxygen saturation of the part of the patient'"'"'s body through which the light travelled. The circuit board further includes an integrally formed tail at least partially disposed in the sensor pad. Additionally, the sensor pad includes an overlay disposed on the tail.

16. A sensor comprising:
-
a first layer formed from a flexible material and defining a plurality of openings; a second layer formed from a flexible material and at least partially spaced from the first layer; a flexible circuit board disposed between the first layer and the second layer; wherein the flexible circuit board includes a light source and a light detector each aligned with one of the openings in the first layer so that light generated by the light source may travel through a patient'"'"'s body to the light detector, wherein the light received by the light detector indicates oxygen saturation of the part of the patient'"'"'s body through which the light travelled; a connector disposed on the circuit board; and a cable connected to the connector and in communication with the circuit board via the connector, wherein the cable is configured to carry control signals from a controller to the light source and signals representative of oxygen saturation from the light detector to the controller, wherein the flexible circuit board includes an integrally formed tail that is substantially flat and disposed between the first layer and the second layer, and wherein the first layer includes an integrally formed first overlay disposed on the tail and the second layer includes an integrally formed second overlay disposed on the tail, wherein the first and second overlays extend along the entire length of the tail. - View Dependent Claims (17, 18)
