1. A system for tissue ablation, comprising:

  • a probe comprising a plurality of electrodes adapted to define a first treatment volume and a second treatment volume in a target tissue, wherein the first volume is smaller than the second volume and positioned within the second volume;

    an energy source coupled to the probe to establish ablating current flows extending radially through the target tissue;

    a computer control system operatively coupled to the probe and the energy source, and programmed to provide alternating electrical current to different sets of electrodes of the plurality so as to preferentially ablate cancerous cells of the target tissue within the treatment volumes compared to non-cancerous cells within the treatment volumes, wherein providing the alternating electrical current comprises differentially activating (a) a first set of electrodes of the plurality so as to induce a first voltage field; and

    (b) a second set of electrodes so as to induce a second voltage field.
