1. A method of securing an implantable medical device on a delivery implement, comprising:

  • positioning a radially expandable implantable medical device on a delivery implement, wherein the medical device includes first and second structural elements and first and second coupling elements, and wherein the first coupling element is connected to the first structural element and the second coupling element is connected to the second structural element, wherein the implantable medical device is an expandable stent, wherein the first coupling element and the second coupling element are located on a proximal end or a distal end of the device on a node of the first structural element and a node of the second structural element, wherein the first and second structural elements bend at the nodes to allow contraction of the stent; and

    compressing the positioned implantable medical device to a reduced diameter to releasably couple the first coupling element to the second coupling element.
